Greece Day 8

Our last day at sea... it's bitter sweet. Personally I am ready to get off the boat as my sea sickness has really kicked up a notch. Dave could stay on the boat forever. It has been such an awesome trip both in Italy and here in Greece but it's time to go back to reality. We still had the whole day at sea though which meant one last stop for swimming, snorkeling and lunch on the island of Skorpios. We then went back to Nydri on the island of Lefkada. We packed up and then had dinner in the town of Nydri with our lovely shipmates for the week. The last night finished with a bang... good food, greek dancing and a bar with a live band at the end.

This morning we start our journey back to Athens in the car. You know that it has been a really good vacation when you are ready to go home and back to work. We have to start saving for the next big adventure! I miss my Buddy tremendously...

Greece Day 7

We are quite sure that Tradewinds Cruise Club had never experienced a couple like me and Dave. We are having WAY too much fun! Last night Dave rented a 4-wheeler and we cruised through the islands. It was a lot of fun and we got to see the sites from above. I didn't take any pictures because I did not bring my camera. We are now ported in our captains favorite port for the night!!

Greece Day 6

Greece Day 6 -

We had quite the party night last night with everyone on the boat including the Alan and Amanda. We went into town for dinner, all of us together, and drank some wine then came back to the boat, threw some music on and danced the night away. It is such a blessing that 8 people on a 50 foot catamaran get along so well. I'm sure we were the loudest boat in a full harbor. It was a lot of fun. We finally got to see the fun and crazy side of Alan and Amanda.

After breakfast and a bit more shopping, we pulled out of the harbor and headed off to another pristine beach for a lunchtime snorkel, swim and sun. We have had such an amazing time here! Captain Alan taught Dave a few new knots so he was excited about that. We drove by a mega yacht and none of us could quite understand why someone would buy a yacht so big. All we could see were the crew of the boat. Such a waste of millions of dollars. But to each their own I suppose.

We are now off to Agia Effimilia, where we will take a 3 hour trip to see some caves, and do some wine tasting. It will be a nice break from the boat.

Greece Day 3, 4 and 5

Greece - September 3rd, 4th and 5th

Waking up in the bay on a catamaran surrounding by sailboats with the bright blue sky is the only way someone should wake up in this world :)

It is so beautiful out here. We enjoyed our evening talking with Greg and Andrea, Ron and Brenda, Captain Alan and 1st mate Amanda. We drank "some" wine and enjoyed the evening stars from the bow of the boat laying on the trampoline. The other couples are 10+ years older than us. Dave is enjoying talking world history and politics with them. I am enjoying listening.

We are now headed off to the island of Meganisi, passing the island of Skorpios along the way. The island of Skorpios is owned by the Onnasis family and Jackie is buried there. We will then head over to the island of Kalamos to drop anchor for the night in Port Leone.

Port Leone is an amazing little bay. We were able to get off the boat for a bit and walk around the island. The views and the water have been absolutely phenomenal.

Dave has been quite the entertainer with his quick witted humor and willingness to help on the boat whenever needed. Captain Alan has appreciated all his help.

September 4th - my 40th birthday. I want to wake up EVERY birthday like this. In the middle of the Mediterranean surrounded by beauty. Amanda made my birthday special all day long. We had mimosas for breakfast with a sparkler in the orange juice pitcher. It was just wonderful. The rest of the day was spent just snorkeling, sunning, reading, chatting, etc. The water is so buoyant I feel like I could swim for miles and miles. I actually got to drive the boat once it was in sail. Cocktail hour was also special as Amanda made us Mud Slides in honor of my birthday. Dinner came and it was a delightful Greek dish and Amanda made us a cake. I feel so blessed to be where I am for my 40th birthday. We ended up anchoring for the night in a beautiful cove on an uninhabited island. The water was perfectly clear and you could see all the way to the bottom. It was just amazing!! I've never felt so relaxed in my life!!

September 5th brought a bit of drama. We woke to find that one of the props on the boat had fallen off during the entry to the last cove. So between all of us finding the prop and Brenda being an excellent swimmer and diver to go down about 20 feet and retrieve the prop, we were back on track. We still had to drive with one prop because we could not find the nut that we needed to bolt the prop back on but at least we got the prop. Before we discovered this, the captain of the boat took us up a cliff to do some cliff jumping. The captain went up the highest, I went the second highest, Brenda was next and then Dave. It was an exciting jump into the most crystal clear water that you will ever see.

So then we headed off to the island of Kefallonia in the port town of Fiskardho. It took us a bit to park the boat since we were down a prop but we were able to get in. The maintenance guy from the company is meeting us here to put the prop back on. We are here for the day and evening. This gives me a chance to post to my blog and catch up with the world.

Greece Day 2 - drive from Athens to Lafkada

Waking up in Athens Greece still seems like a dream to me... it was so beautiful out this morning as the sun rose and we started our journey over to Lefkada to catch our ride for the next 7 nights. The drive was absolutely beautiful. Dave mentioned that he thinks he has said "that is so pretty" hundreds of times today. The sea is just incredibly blue and green and all the little towns that we drove through were just amazing. We stopped at a nice little town for lunch.

We got to Lefkada and finally found the hotel after driving back and forth in the town of Nydri a few times. We checked in and met the british woman who is running the show. She is very nice and showed us where to park our car for the week and a nice man came and got our back packs to take to the boat. We then preceded to sit at the bar and grab a drink. I noticed that the people sitting out on the patio were also talking to the tour company so I introduced myself and we discovered our first boat mates! A very nice couple about 10 years older than us from England. I also found out that the other couple on board are Canadians. This is going to be FUN trip! We chatted with the english couple, Greg and Andrea for about an hour and they are a delight! We have not yet met the Canadians. We are meeting the tour company again at 5 pm for the orientation and then off to the boat and our cruise begins!

I am not sure when I will have internet so I will post when I can. Until then picture us in the deep blue and green sea, sailing along, drinking our cocktails and enjoying the 90 degree weather and the breeze!!!
