Good Morning Rome!!!
We are up early but mostly on Italian time today. We had an AMAZING dinner last night at Ristorante La Pentolaccia. Many courses, good wine and good company from the waiters. Waiters are definitely in my favor over here. :). Dave had a meat tray as an appetizer, ravioli and a first course and beef as a second and chocolate mousse as dessert. I have a tomato and mozzarella tower as an appetizer, mixed seafood pasta as a first course and seabass as a second course. Of course we had a bottle of Pinot Nero (Noir) from northern Italy and lots of water!!
We then walked around downtown Rome again trying to stay awake until at least 9 pm to try and get on the local time zone, which we accomplished mostly. We did wake up at 3:30 am and tried to go back to sleep but it's not happening.
So espresso and croissants for breakfast and today we are going to see Ancient Rome... the Colosseum, the Pantheon and the Forum. Lots of walking today and picture taking with historical lessons abound (all for Dave). We still about 3 hours to wait though before everything opens.
Tonight we get to see my friend Gavy, her husband Chris and her son Deccan. This is what brought me to Rome, the site seeing is just a bonus!! I am SOOOO excited to see them, have a nice dinner and then walk around Rome together. For those that don't know, Gavy and I were roommates in college and then we went to Kenya together in 1993 for 2 quarters of study. I have only seen her a few times since then and this stretch has been more than 10 years so I am beyond excited to see her and Chris and meet their new addition Deccan. It has been way too long.
More this evening....
I so know that early am wakeup.
